Why I Offer In-Home Consults

Most of my consults are done over the phone or in-person at my studio, but I really don't mind traveling to the client's home.  I can help choose wardrobe if she already has an idea of what she wants to wear, and I can measure any bare wall space to see what our options are.

This client in particular didn't want just one large piece over her bed but rather a collection of gallery wraps from her session.  We knew ahead of time that with the headboard and ceiling height that a grouping of no more than 24" high would look best.  We also didn't want anything bigger than 45" because it would overwhelm the wall and look out-of-whack.

I created two sample groupings in Photoshop to give her an idea of layout and what the images would look like cropped.  As you can imagine, she chose the grouping below.  It preserves the composition of the images and makes a stronger impact.

The added bonus of doing an in-home consultation with her was that I could see the color palette of her room.  This meant I needed to convert the images to black and white.  (I always shoot in color so that I have the option of converting to black and white later if I wish to;  if I shoot in black and white first, then I cannot convert the image to color.)

I loved that she wasn't afraid to show off her gorgeous body-of-work (You see what I did there?), even with a family full of four children!  It's classy, tasteful, and timeless.
