10 Boudoir Trends or Themes to Try

November 17, 2016 Bodacious Betty

Nudescape or Bodyscape:  Usually done nude, but not always

So, beyond lace and leather, what else should you consider when planning your boudoir session?

It’s totally uncheesy (is that a word?) to think about a theme or a trend that appeals to you.  In fact, I actually encourage it because it gives you a role to play; it’s much easier to be uninhibited when you’re playing a character.

Here are a few ideas to help you plan your dream session:

1)   Bodyscapes or Nudescapes:  While there’s not much role-play in shots like this, these are low-key images that are shot against a black backdrop and meant show off the curves of the body while leaving other areas in shadow.  These images can be done in both color or black and white, and look great displayed as wall art.

2)   Bohemian:  Flowers, lace, and gauzy material dominate this look.

The Cat Set from Hips and Curves $14.95

3)   The Cat Lady:  Whether it’s a cat suit or actual cats, you can show off your feminine side with some smoky cat-eyes and voluminous waves.  Add some cat ears or some elbow length gloves and you’re the cat’s meow.

4)   The Chef:  the prop ideas here are endless.  The only wardrobe requirement is an apron of some sort and a pair of stilettos.

5)   White Sheets:  a la Marilyn MonroeWear little or nothing underneath, and just use the sheet to drape or hide areas accordingly.  It’s simple, clean, and timeless.  If you’re not the type to wear lingerie, this is a great theme to go with.

6)   The Movies:  Takes some inspiration from the silver screen, be it 50 Shades of Gray or Harry Potter.   Wear a lace mask over your eyes, or bring a magic wand.  You get the idea.

7)   The Nerd:  If comic books and glasses are your thing, well, pull up your knee highs, and push those glasses up because I’m about to make being a geek , chic.  You’re Welcome.

8)   The Private Investigator, or Whatever Profession. Let your dream job play center stage for a day.

Silver Tapestry Corset and Skirt Set $79.95

9)   The Courtesan:  Let’s put on a Marie Antoinette wig and some thigh highs and let them eat cake.

10)  Couture for Sure! Wear your Louboutins and your La Perla.  I’ll provide the props with all the designer names:  Chanel, Louis, and Dom will all make an appearance.

Ultimately, when it comes to deciding what to wear, and who to be for the day, you want to think with the end in mind (pun intended)!  If you think you will be displaying the images as wall art, think about the colors in the room you will be displaying your art in, and if the chosen theme will fit in with your décor.

Hopefully, I’ve given you some ideas to get the ball rolling.  If you need more, I’m happy to help.

What to Look for When Selecting a Corset

September 30, 2014 Bodacious Betty

Corsets are some of my favorite lingerie.  They help to create an exaggerated feminine shape. You may not realize it but there are actually two different types of corsets:  those with steel-boning, and those with plastic boning.  Steel-boned corsets retain their shape over time, and are more expensive than the cheap one-off corsets found in lower end retail stores.  The tube top, flimsy corsets are referred to corset tops.  They look like a corset, but they don't act like one.

There are also a few different styles of corsets out there:  your traditional strapless, with lapels (as seen above in my custom-made corset by Dolly Donshey of Monstruosite), or an under-bust corset.    Underbust corsets are definitely more versatile as they can be worn over a dress or a shirt.

Overbust corsets are perfect for the more endowed Betty, while those with more petite measurements benefit from flat-front corset.   Long-line corsets hide a full belly quite nicely while straps can help disguise wide shoulders.  See, aren't corsets lovely?

How to Wear Fashion as a Work of Art

September 19, 2014 Bodacious Betty

Lina Teixeira, who grew up in Canada, and now resides in Dunedin, is a local fashion designer who's taking it national with her couture designs. Lina's been featured in Atlanta's Fashion Week, Our Canada Magazine, and most recently Dunedin's Wearable Art fashion show.

Lina, and model Bianca Persechino, also made an appearance at the grand opening of Strike A Pose photo studio, aka Betty headquarters. In the top right photo above, Bianca models the custom corset, skirt, and fascinator featuring the studio logo, my logos, and that of my studio partner, Mims Von Schuhe. The corset is made of shredded paper, and the logos are hand-painted.

Just a few months later, I had the pleasure of attending Lina's grand opening of Studio Six One Seven in Clearwater, FL. I look forward to watching Lina grow as a designer and businesswoman.

If you're interested in commissioning Lina for your own couture wear, just head to linateixeira.com. Her corsets would be perfect for a shoot with Boudoir Betty!
